Bridget Jones – ‘Mad About The Boy’

Mad About The Boy

What do you do when a girlfriend’s 60th birthday party is the same day as your boyfriend’s 30th?

Is it wrong to lie about your age when online dating?

Is it morally wrong to have a blow-dry when one of your children has head lice?

Does the Dalai Lama actually tweet or is it his assistant?

Is technology now the fifth element? Or is that wood?

Is sleeping with someone after 2 dates and 6 weeks of texting the same as getting married after 2 meetings and 6 months of letter writing in Jane Austen’s day?

Pondering these, and other modern dilemmas, Bridget Jones stumbles through the challenges of single-motherhood, tweeting, texting and redisovering her sexuality in what SOME people rudely and outdatedly call ‘middle age’.

I just finished reading Bridget Jones – ‘Mad About The Boy’, by Helen Fielding, and I have to say, I didn’t want it to end!  I have been a Bridget Jones fan from way back, before the book became a success at the box office.  I remember my Mum giving me a copy, telling me ‘I just had to read it’, and so my love affair with this series began.

As an avid reader, I can tell you that not many authors have the skill to make you ‘laugh out loud’, but Helen Fielding has accomplished just that, with all three books in her Bridget Jones series.

‘Mad About The Boy’ contains all, if not more, of the brilliant humour of the first two books – and now that Bridget is a Mum, that means even more side-splitting humour that comes with the quandaries of motherhood.  Once again Bridget’s life is met with equal parts heartache and happiness, written in an honest, gritty way, that so many readers will be able to identify with (particularly mothers!).  I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and if you too are a Bridget Jones fan, then this is a must read.  The perfect book to get lost in, on a warm sunny Spring afternoon.

Author Bio

Helen Fielding

Helen Fielding is the author of Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and was part of the screenwriting team on the films of the same name. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is her fifth novel. She has two children and lives in London and sometimes Los Angeles.

If you haven’t read any of the Bridget Jones series, I suggest starting with Bridget Jone’s Diary, and reading the follow two books in succession.  You wont be disappointed!
