Tell us a little about your blog.
The Best Nest is a total extension of me.  It’s a bit hectic, a bit all over the place, a bit random but at the end of the day it’s all about family.

What is the story behind how you came to be a blogger?
I’ve always been a really creative person but with zero creative talent!  When we moved from San Diego back home to Auckland in 2006 I felt this urge to begin telling our story through images and words. My friends thought I was mental – nobody in NZ was blogging back then but I’d been following some US bloggers for a while and admired the freedom they had in their online spaces.  I have learnt SO much and have done it all myself, though if you asked me how to transfer your blog to a self-hosted domain right now there’s no way I could remember!

Where do you go or what do you do to get inspiration for your blog?
I think the major thing that I’m constantly looking to improve on is my imagery, so I’m always looking for photographic inspiration on Instagram, Pinterest and other blogs.  My photos are everything to me {and my blog} and I like to make this a point of difference for The Best Nest.  Editorial inspiration comes directly from everyday life, that is what I LOVE writing about, it’s where I feel comfortable as a writer. Being able to transpose your own experience of the mundane trivialities of life as a Mum and make it relatable to others takes a bit of practice but always keeping it funny and warm is my goal.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt and how has it shaped you?
It’s so cliché but finding your own voice as a blogger is pretty much the only thing that will keep you going long-term.  Don’t get stuck in the comparison trap either, it will do your head in and blow your focus!  I’ve been down this track and it sucks the motivation and inspiration right out of you!.

What one piece of advice would you give to new bloggers?
Learn your craft.  There are many more elements to a successful blog than writing.  Practice your photography, take courses, go to workshops, surround yourself with others who share your passion, find a mentor, learn the technical aspects of blogging, know what you’re doing and why on your social media accounts, have a goal and chase it.  Oops, that’s many pieces of advice!

Name some of the bloggers that you look up to and why?
Dooce – Heather Armstrong.  She. Is.  it.  This women is a badass storyteller that has put it all out there from the birth of her babies to her very public divorce and her amazing evolution into a charitable super hero.

About You:

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
I love driving, it’s my thing!  Weird but true, I’m happy in my car and on the road so I think about my blog a lot, because that’s also my jam.  There are very, very few times in the day when we can singularly focus on just one thing, but when you’re driving you kinda have to!  So I find time behind the wheel quite relaxing.

What song is your personal anthem?
Malibu by Hole.

If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?
Lasagne or a kick ass salad.  Depending on how my jeans are fitting!

In the movie of your life, who would play you?
Drew Barrymore

Where is your happy place, and why?
The ocean.  In it, beside it, near it.  My young and wild years were spent chasing waves and I’ll always treasure my time in the water.

How would you describe your personal style?
Colourful and structured.  I love matching quality basics with more extravagant extras.  This translates both to fashion and how I decorate my house.

What is the last thing that made you say ‘wow’?
A skateboard video that my husband showed me on IG.  Always with the skateboarding…….

What is your wish for the future?
To NOT get cancer.  Aside from that, I wish to live a happy, content life being happy and contented with MY life!
