It’s All About The Image – Dick Frizzell

[Product Review]

This book is a must for art lovers everywhere, especially if you have a keen interest in the history of New Zealand art.  Jenny Hellon, from Random House, approached Dick Frizzell, one of New Zealand’s most popular and important artists, with the idea for this book, which is, in short, ‘a list of [Dick’s] favourite New Zealand paintings’.  It is much, much more than that however.

Dick takes the reader on a journey through his personal history, as well as that of some New Zealand artists, and the  ‘art scene’ they were immersed in, giving a very personal, most often flattering (although not always) take, on each of the paintings chosen by him, to be represented in this book.  He is brutally honest, and it’s a refreshing take on New Zealand art, as well as a glimpse into the mind of the genius that is Dick Frizzell.

I just devoured this book, it is more than just a beautifully presented coffee table book, but a raw, and real glimpse into the New Zealand art scene – and beyond.

This gorgeous book is published by Random House – check our their website, and facebook page for the latest releases, updates on your favourite authors, and great competitions.

You can order a copy of this book HERE.   It would make a fantastic gift if you have an art loving friend, or family member, or even if you just like a bit of New Zealand history.
