These are the common attributes driving a fresh new relationship between top hair brand Redken 5th Avenue NYC and internationally renowned New Zealand fashion label Stolen Girlfriends Club, according to designer Marc Moore.

The creative partnership was announced on both Stolen Girlfriends Club and Redken NZ Facebook pages. An artistic image created together by the two brands will be revealed to signify the alliance.

For this announcement project, we wanted to let everyone know we are now working with Redken as our hair partner,” says Marc Moore.

“So many brands are making ‘noise’ on social media these days so we wanted to put out an image that represented the spirit of both brands but also was something a little different and eye-catching.  I feel this image really represents both brands well…it’s a little irreverent, it’s fun and it’s a touch punky too.  Perfect.”

Redken artist Natasha Boustridge created the hair look on shoot day.  “Hair frames the face and defines you in the same way that clothes do. This look is what happens when fashion and hair collide – the image is a collision of two brands in a perfect match.”

Partnership presence of the like-minded brands will be seen at Stolen Girlfriends Club catwalk shows, installations, campaign-shoots and lookbooks, with collaborative efforts on other top secret projects in the works.

“For each project we will sit down with Redken’s team and throw around ideas on our theme and the end result we are looking for,” says Marc Moore.  “We are not experts at hair so we rely on their expertise to bring our visions to life.”

“We are always very careful about who we align with,” says Marc Moore.  “We must really love a brand to work with it and have a mutual respect. It also needs to be long-term.  Hair is hugely important to a person’s overall look – it’s the finishing touch, it frames the face and it completes the outfit.  It needs to work with the look by complementing it – not competing against it for attention.”

Redken NZ General Manager Mike Bruce agrees. “Hair is just as important as the clothes to bring the aesthetic together, so that the consumer understands the overall seasonal look. Redken and Stolen Girlfriends Club are both rebellious spirits by nature that challenge the status quo and that makes us ideal brand partners. This year expect the unexpected. This will be a collaborative relationship that breathes inspiration and innovation from the salon chair to the runway.”

Redken was founded in 1960 by American actress Paula Kent and her friend and hairdresser, Jheri Redding, after Paula was frustrated with the lack of high performance hair products available which didn’t cater to sensitive scalps. Balancing its solid past of science with inspiration from the industry’s best educators, Redken’s rebellious, street sense of fashion keeps the brand on the cutting edge. With a backstage presence at Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, Redken creates the buzz, sets the pace and establishes what’s new, what’s hot and what’s next in hair.

Stolen Girlfriends Club is a brand with youthful rebellious spirit, a healthy sense of humour and the ability to entertain and empower. It was founded in 2005 by friends Dan Gosling, Luke Harwood and Marc Moore after they set out to design the clothes and products they couldn’t find in the market place.  Whether inspired by punk romanticism, party crashers, or post-apocalyptic surfers, each Stolen Girlfriends Club collection has an underlying feeling of rock’n’roll delinquency and is now stocked in over 13 countries around the world.
